Let me give you a comprehensive explanation about Disney Premier Access (DPA)! Disney Premier Access is essentially your “skip-the-line” pass for popular attractions. Let me break down everything you need to know about this helpful but sometimes confusing ticket option:
What is Disney Premier Access ?
Let me explain what Disney Premier Access (DPA) is in simple terms! Think of DPA as your VIP pass to skip those long lines at the most popular attractions!
What exactly is it?
- It’s a special ticket you can buy in addition to your park admission
- Lets you use a shorter queue for popular rides
- Dramatically reduces your waiting time
- For example: A 2-hour wait could become just 15-30 minutes!
Basically, it’s your time-saving ticket that helps you bypass those super long regular lines – but remember, it comes at an extra cost beyond your regular park ticket!
Pro tip! Think of it as paying a premium to save time – instead of spending hours in line, you could be enjoying more attractions or shows around the park!
Would you like to know more about specific DPA prices or which rides offer this option?
the difference between Disney Premier Access (DPA) and FastPass
Let me explain the difference between Disney Premier Access (DPA) and FastPass!
Historical FastPass System:
- Was a free queue management system
- You’d scan your park ticket at a machine
- Get a return time (e.g., come back at 2:00 PM)
- Return during your assigned time to use a special shorter line
- Best part – it was FREE!
Current DPA System:
- Replaced FastPass at all Disney parks worldwide.
- Works similarly to FastPass (shorter lines, specific return times)
- Main difference: You have to pay extra for this privilege.
Where You’ll Find Premier Access:
- Hong Kong Disneyland
- Tokyo Disneyland/DisneySea
- Shanghai Disneyland
- Disneyland Paris
Fun fact! In American Disney parks, they call it “Lightning Lane passes” instead, but it works the same way.
Pro tip! Think of DPA as the “premium version” of the old FastPass – same convenience, but now it comes with a price tag.
the pricing for Disney Premier Access (DPA)
The price of DPA (Disney Premier Access) varies by ride and by park – not every attraction requires or offers DPA access. DPA is specifically available for popular attractions only.
The pricing structure is different for each Disney park and can vary based on several factors, as it’s designed to provide expedited access to just the most in-demand attractions rather than every ride in the park.
DPA tickets are available for individual attractions, allowing guests to choose which specific popular rides they want to access with shorter wait times. This targeted approach means you only pay for priority access to the attractions that matter most to you.

Single Rider: A cost-effective way to skip the queue for solo travelers
Single Rider is a special privilege for guests visiting the park alone. What makes Single Rider special is that you can ride attractions almost as quickly as DPA users, but without paying any extra money!
To use Single Rider privileges, simply enter through the designated Single Rider line at attractions that offer this option. Typically, Single Rider queues move much faster than regular lines, which makes riding attractions much more convenient and saves a lot of time.
Condition to use a Single Rider Pass.
Conditions for Single Rider queues:
- Guests using Single Rider lines cannot choose their seats or positions on the rides
- Using the Single Rider line does not guarantee immediate boarding
- If visiting with friends, you can use Single Rider lines but won’t be able to sit together, and there’s no guarantee you’ll even ride in the same session
- For guests requiring special seating (such as those with health or physical conditions), some rides may not be able to accommodate all requirements
- Single Rider service is only available on select attractions, not all rides
Note: These are important conditions to consider when deciding whether to use the Single Rider option!

FAQ Premier Access
How Many Rides Can You Use with Disney Premier Access?
With Premier Access, one pass can be used for one ride entry only (one time per attraction).
So if you want to ride the same attraction again, you’ll need to purchase Premier Access again for that additional ride.
How to Buy Disney Premier Access (DPA) ?
You can purchase Disney Premier Access (DPA) for any Disneyland park through official channels only:
The park’s official website
The park’s official mobile app
It’s very convenient because, in the park, you’ll typically use your phone anyway—whether it’s to scan a QR code for entry/ride access or to book restaurants and manage reservations directly in the app.
How to Use Disney Premier Access (DPA) at Disneyland
In most Disneyland parks, the way you use Disney Premier Access (DPA) is very similar.
When you want to use DPA for a ride, simply select the attraction and reserve a time slot in the official park app.
When your reserved time arrives, walk to the attraction. At the entrance, you’ll usually see two queues:
Standby Pass / Standby Line
DPA (Disney Premier Access) Line
Enter through the DPA queue, then open the QR code for your ride reservation in the app and scan it at the checkpoint. Once it scans successfully, you can enter and enjoy the ride.
Do You Still Need a Park Ticket After Buying Disney Premier Access (DPA)?
Yes. Disney Premier Access (DPA) is not a park admission ticket.
Buying DPA alone does not allow you to enter the park.
To visit Disneyland, you still need to purchase a separate park entry ticket, and then you can use DPA for eligible attractions once you’re inside.
Do You Really Need Disney Premier Access (DPA)?
If you ask me 😄, I’d split the “need” for Disney Premier Access (DPA) by park like this:
Hong Kong Disneyland — Usually Not Necessary
For Hong Kong Disneyland, I don’t think DPA is essential most of the time. The park has fewer attractions compared to other Disneyland parks, and in normal seasons the average wait is often around 15–20 minutes for many rides.
The exception is peak periods (for example, major holidays or very busy seasons), when crowds can jump significantly and waits may go 30–40+ minutes (or more) for popular attractions.
But honestly, if you plan your day well (or visit for 2 days), you can usually cover the key rides without buying DPA.
Shanghai Disneyland — You Don’t Need DPA for Everything
For Shanghai Disneyland, I don’t recommend buying DPA for every ride.
In my experience, it’s often enough to buy DPA only for the Zootopia area (especially if it’s a high-demand day) and skip DPA for the rest.
Disneyland Paris — Buy It for Crush’s Coaster
For Disneyland Paris, if you’re going to buy Premier Access for just one attraction, I’d pick Crush’s Coaster.
That ride is very popular, and the standby line can get intense.
Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Resort (California), Walt Disney World — Strongly Consider It
For parks like Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Resort (California), and Walt Disney World Resort, I’d strongly consider a skip-the-line option such as Premier Access (where available) or Lightning Lane (in U.S. parks).
Why? Because the standby queues for top attractions can be wildly long—on busy days, waits can reach 100+ minutes for popular rides.
Does Hong Kong Disneyland Have FastPass?
No. FastPass is no longer available at Hong Kong Disneyland.
The FastPass system has been replaced by Disney Premier Access (DPA).
You can purchase Disney Premier Access either together with your park ticket or separately through the official Hong Kong Disneyland app, depending on your preference.
Does Tokyo Disneyland Have FastPass?
No. FastPass has been completely discontinued at all Disney resorts worldwide.
Today, the term “FastPass” is mostly used informally by travelers for convenience. If you use the word “FastPass” at the park, Cast Members may actually be confused, as it is no longer an official system.
At Tokyo Disney Resort, FastPass does not exist anymore. Instead, it has been replaced by the Priority Pass system, which includes:
Free Priority Pass (40th Anniversary Priority Pass)
Paid option: Disney Premier Access (DPA)
Both options can be reserved directly through the Tokyo Disney Resort official app.
Important Notice:
Usage details and terms for Disney Premier Access and Lightning Lane passes may vary by park and are subject to change. The information in this article is intended as a general guide only.
If you’re planning an actual visit and need the most up-to-date details, we strongly recommend checking the official website of each Disney park for the latest updates and policies.
