Where is Shanghai Disneyland?

Shanghai Disneyland is the newest Disneyland, located in Pudong, Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. It is the largest Disney theme park in Asia and stands out with its unique identity compared to other Asian counterparts like Tokyo Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland. What sets it apart is that it is the only park in Asia designed with a layout similar to California’s “Magic Kingdom,” while seamlessly blending Disney’s magic with distinct Chinese cultural elements.

How do I get to Shanghai Disneyland from the city?

For traveling to Shanghai Disneyland, there are 2 popular ways for tourists

  • Take the Metro line, subway line 11, get off at Shanghai Disney Resort Station, walk towards exits 2 or 4.
  • Take a Didi taxi from the city. It takes about 30 minutes and costs 150-180 yuan.

In Shanghai, the seasons differ from those in Thailand, as the city experiences all four distinct seasons: winter, spring, summer, and autumn. Each season brings its own unique weather conditions. As tourists, it’s important for us to pack clothing suitable for the season to ensure we’re well-prepared. Falling ill during a trip due to inappropriate attire can be a major hassle and take the fun out of the experience!

Winter (December to February)

The winter weather in Shanghai can be quite cold, with temperatures ranging from 1°C to 13°C. However, it’s not cold enough for snowfall since Shanghai is located in southern China, where the climate is warmer compared to northern regions. Snowfall here is quite rare. If you’re planning to visit during this season, I highly recommend packing warm clothing, including winter coats, scarves, gloves, and other accessories to keep yourself cozy!

Spring is a popular season for visitors to Shanghai, thanks to its pleasant weather and the beautiful bloom of flowers in vibrant colors. The temperatures during this time are comfortably warm, ranging from 6°C to  24°C, making it an ideal time for sightseeing. You can pack stylish coats for layering, as it’s not as cold as winter, but still cool enough for light outerwear. However, I recommend bringing a raincoat or umbrella as well, since spring, despite its charm, often comes with the occasional risk of sudden showers or thunderstorms

Shanghai’s summer is hot and humid, quite similar to the weather in Thailand, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 32°C. There’s no need to bring winter coats for this season. Instead, pack lightweight, breathable clothing that allows for good air circulation. Don’t forget essentials like a hat, a water bottle to stay hydrated, and sunscreen to protect your skin.

One downside of visiting during summer is the large crowds, as it coincides with major Chinese holidays and festivals. Tourist attractions can become particularly busy and crowded during this time. Plan ahead to make the most of your trip!

Autumn (October to November)

During autumn, temperatures in Shanghai gradually drop to a range of 9°C to 27°C as the city transitions into winter. One of the highlights of this season is the breathtaking transformation of foliage, with leaves turning vibrant shades of orange, yellow, and red, creating a stunningly picturesque landscape.

For clothing, while it may not be freezing cold, the winds can be quite strong, especially after sunset. I recommend bringing a windbreaker or a light jacket to stay comfortable in the evenings. It’s the perfect season to enjoy the crisp air and scenic beauty!

Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

What time does Shanghai Disneyland open?

The park generally operates from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM, though during certain festive periods, the hours may extend to 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Guests are typically allowed to enter the park after 8:30 AM. However, an exception is made for hotel guests and those with an Early Park Entry Pass, who are granted earlier access to enjoy the park ahead of the general public.

If you’re planning a visit, it’s always a good idea to check the park’s official schedule for the specific day to ensure you’re up-to-date with any changes!

How to quickly enter Shanghai Disneyland?

Tips for Early Park Entry at Shanghai Disneyland

If you want to enter the park earlier, whether for capturing photos with fewer crowds or booking rides before others, there are two options available:

  1. Stay at a Shanghai Disney Resort Hotel
Guests staying at hotels within the resort are allowed to enter the park 60 minutes before the general opening time. However, this privilege applies only on the day following your stay. The participating hotels include:

    • Toy Story Hotel
    • Shanghai Disneyland Hotel
  2. Purchase an Early Park Entry Pass
You can buy an Early Park Entry Pass for 149 CNY via the Shanghai Disney Resort App. This pass grants entry up to 90 minutes before the general opening time. For example, if the park opens at 8:30 AM, Early Entry Pass holders can enter as early as 7:00 AM.

Both options give you a great head start to make the most of your magical day!

What rides does Shanghai Disneyland have?

Shanghai Disneyland offers seven enchanting themed zones where visitors can immerse themselves in a dreamy atmosphere. The park’s attractions are designed to be family-friendly, with approximately 90% of the rides suitable for guests of all ages, making it a perfect destination for children and adults alike. The remaining 10% includes a few thrilling rides for those seeking a bit of adventure, but these are limited in number.

Each zone is beautifully decorated, featuring unique designs inspired by beloved characters and animations. The attractions within each zone are also carefully themed, providing a truly magical and immersive experience for all visitors. Whether you’re looking to explore, take stunning photos, or enjoy the rides, every corner of the park offers something special!

Mickey Avenue

โซน Mickey Avenue Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

Mickey Avenue – The Heart of Shanghai Disneyland

As you enter Shanghai Disneyland from the ticket checkpoint, you’ll first step into Mickey Avenue, the park’s main street. This area evokes the feel of classic Main Street, like in other Disney parks, and is beautifully decorated with inspiration drawn from Disney and Pixar characters, including:

  • Mickey Mouse
  • Minnie Mouse
  • Donald Duck
  • Chip and Dale
  • Ratatouille
  • The Three Caballeros
  • Lady and the Tramp

While Mickey Avenue doesn’t feature any specific rides or shows, it’s home to charming restaurants, snack stands, and shops that are inspired by the iconic Carthay Circle Theatre in Hollywood.

Across from Mickey Avenue stands the majestic Enchanted Storybook Castle, the most significant landmark of Shanghai Disneyland. What makes this castle so special is that it is the first in the world designed to represent all Disney princesses, including Anna and Elsa from Frozen. Standing at an impressive 197 feet (60 meters), it is also the tallest Disney castle in the world. Inside the castle, you’ll find the Royal Banquet Hall, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and the “Storytellers” statue — a tribute to Walt Disney, depicted alongside Mickey Mouse and a large suitcase. This statue commemorates Walt Disney’s first trip to Los Angeles, a moment that changed the world of entertainment forever.

It’s a place filled with magic and history, making it a must-see for every visitor to Shanghai Disneyland!

Waffle Linabelle – A Must-Try Treat at Mickey Avenue

If you’re visiting Shanghai Disneyland, I highly recommend trying the Waffle Linabelle. Honestly, I didn’t plan on buying it at first, since I’m not usually someone who craves sweets. However, the delightful aroma was so tempting that I couldn’t resist. After trying just one piece, I was hooked! The waffle is perfectly sweet, with a smooth, buttery flavor, and the outer layer is wonderfully crispy—every bite is a joy. This treat is only available in Mickey Avenue, so be sure to grab one while you’re there!

โซน Mickey Avenue Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

This black sesame ice cream might sound unusual at first, and I can already imagine some people raising their eyebrows, thinking, “Wait, black sesame flavor?”  But trust me, it’s not as strange as it sounds! The ice cream has a smooth, Soft serve texture, not too heavy, with a mild, milk-like flavor that’s complemented by a lovely sesame aroma. It’s slightly sweet, making it the perfect pairing with the Waffle Linabelle. Together, they create a delightful combination that’s simply perfect! Don’t miss out on this unique treat!

Meet & Show : Mickey Avenue

Mickey’s Storybook Express

The parade at Shanghai Disneyland is truly a sight to behold! It features a Mickey Mouse Express Train theme, with Mickey and other beloved characters spreading joy to all the guests.

  • The parade lasts around 14 minutes
  • takes place every day at 3:45 PM. However,
  • if the weather conditions aren’t favorablesuch as heavy rain, strong winds, poor air quality, or thick fog—the parade might be shortened to just 1 or 2 floats, or there could be announcements about temporary delays. In the case of extremely bad weather, the parade may even be canceled.

Be sure to check the schedule for any updates on the day of your visit, but regardless of the weather, it’s a magical experience you won’t want to miss!

Mickey’s Snow Magic

Special Snowfall Show at Shanghai Disneyland (Christmas Season)

This is a special show available only during the end-of-year or Christmas season at Shanghai Disneyland, and it takes place exclusively in Mickey Avenue. During this magical time, artificial snow is released, making it feel as though the entire park is covered in a winter wonderland blanket. If you’re visiting Shanghai Disneyland during this season, don’t miss out on this enchanting experience!

The snowfall show happens at 5:45 PM and 7:45 PM. However, if the weather conditions aren’t favorable, the show may be canceled, so be sure to check for any updates on the day of your visit! It’s a truly magical moment to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Meet Minnie Mouse and Friends at Mickey Avenue

Meet Minnie Mouse at Shanghai Disneyland!

No trip to Disneyland is complete without meeting the park’s beloved host, Minnie Mouse! If you want to catch a glimpse of her, you’ll need to head over to Mickey Avenue.

  • Minnie is available to greet fans daily from 9:00 AM to 8:45 PM.
  • However, there might be times when she’s not immediately visible, as she could be off shopping in the Avenue (as the staff humorously mentioned ). But don’t worry—if you wait about 10-15 minutes, Minnie will return!
  • You can even ask for her autograph!
  • There might be limited access to meet Minnie, so be prepared for a possible wait, but rest assured, it’s worth it for a special moment with the one and only Minnie Mouse!

Meet Duffy and Friends

If you’re a fan of Duffy and Friends, or if you might not know them yet, let me share a little about their story. Originally, Duffy was just a plush toy that Minnie Mouse made for Mickey Mouse before his adventurous journey. Over time, Duffy came to life, and because he’s become so popular, especially in Asia, he now has a huge fan base, even hosting his own meet-and-greet events! If you’d like to meet Duffy and his friends, you can visit the Whistle Stop Shop located on Mickey Avenue.

The characters are available to greet guests only from 8:30 AM to 2:45 PM, and the exact times they come out aren’t announced in advance, so you’ll have to wait and see! There’s also no specific order for their appearances, so it’s a bit of a surprise!

Shanghai Disneyland Band

There’s a band that performs exclusively in the Mickey Avenue area, bringing fun and excitement to that part of Shanghai Disneyland! Their performance times are a bit unpredictable as well, so be sure to keep an eye out for them!

Note: The shows in each zone may change themes and formats depending on the season or festival. So, if you’re visiting during a regular period, you might experience a different show, but during special events like Halloween or Christmas, there could be entirely new shows. However, the location of the shows will remain the same. You can use my content as a guide to get an idea of what to expect!

ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration at Shanghai Disneyland

One of the most spectacular shows at Shanghai Disneyland is ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration, held in front of the Enchanted Storybook Castle. This stunning performance is filled with a dazzling display of lights, colors, sounds, fireworks, and laser beams that shoot across the sky, creating a truly magical atmosphere. Personally, the highlight for me was the Marvel-themed segment, where the fireworks and lasers perfectly sync with the music—it’s an absolute must-see!

The show takes place twice a day at 6:45 PM and 9:15 PM. If you want a perfect, unobstructed view, you can purchase Disney Premier Access (DPA) through the Shanghai Disneyland Resort app. This gives you access to a special viewing area, marked by ropes and cast members. Simply show your DPA ticket in the app to the staff, and they will grant you entry.

If you’re at the park, make sure to stay for this unforgettable experience—it’s a spectacular end to your day at Shanghai Disneyland!

Gardens of Imagination

The Gardens at Shanghai Disneyland: A Magical Blend of Disney and Chinese Culture

Located right in front of the Enchanted Storybook Castle, this beautiful zone is a collection of 7 themed gardens, each representing a unique aspect of Disney characters and Chinese culture. The gardens are as follows:

  • Garden of the Twelve Friends

For those who want to meet Mickey Mouse, this is the only zone where you can do so! The meeting point is designed like a theater dome, and you’ll see a sign that says “Meet Mickey”. Once you find it, feel free to go inside.

  • Mickey’s meet-and-greet times: 09:00 AM – 08:45 PM daily

Zootopia

Donald Duck Celebration Room
Zootopia Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

The Zootopia zone at Shanghai Disneyland is the newest and one of the most popular additions to the park, inspired by the animated movie Zootopia. The design of the area perfectly mirrors the city of Zootopia from the movie, with incredible attention to detail at every corner. There are many great photo spots throughout the zone!

This area is divided into three main sections:

  1. Rodent District: This part features the habitat of the rodents. If you look closely, you’ll notice hamster cages with hamsters walking through tubes—just like in the movie.
  2. Tundratown: Inspired by the cold, icy region of Zootopia, this section is decorated with blue buildings resembling blocks of ice, complete with air conditioning units everywhere.
  3. Main Street: As you walk along the main street, you’ll see posters promoting concerts by Gazelle, the pop star of Zootopia, who is an important figure in the city. Gazelle is a symbol of Zootopia, representing the idea that “anyone can be anything” in the city. She’s also an idol to Judy Hopps in the movie.

It’s a fun, immersive experience that captures the spirit of the Zootopia movie, with its colorful and dynamic atmosphere!

Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

When it comes to the Zootopia zone, I can tell you that 99% of visitors dress up as Nick and Judy – and yes !! , I was one of them! It’s amazing to see how many fans come decked out as these beloved characters.

Zootopia Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

The Zootopia zone at Shanghai Disneyland has two popular food items that are a must-try:

  1. Paw Print Ice Cream – Located at the entrance to the Zootopia area, this ice cream is shaped like an animal’s paw print and is a fan favorite for both its appearance and taste. It’s a fun treat to enjoy while exploring the zone!

  2. Jumbeaux’s Café – This café is the go-to spot in the area and features a fun menu inspired by the movie, including:

    • Jumbo-Pop Marshmallow: A twist on the Jumbo-pop ice cream from the film, transformed into a marshmallow treat.
    • Donuts: A favorite of Officer Clawhauser in the Animation, these donuts are a sweet treat to grab while you’re in the zone.
    • Cute, themed snacks, including popcorn buckets and other adorable merchandise that tie into the Zootopia theme.

If you’re in the Zootopia zone, don’t miss the chance to try these delicious snacks!

Zootopia Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

The paw-shaped ice cream costs 45 yuan. Seeing its red color, many people might think it’s a flavor like rose apple or strawberry. However, the actual flavor is xiangjia (Chinese hawthorn). At first, I thought it was plum flavor, but it’s not. You can buy it for a fun photo, but the taste is really up to personal preference. Honestly, I didn’t like it.

Attraction : Zootopia Shanghai Disneyland

Zootopia Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

This zone has just one main ride! The ride is a relaxing, fun, “ride-on” adventure where you join Nick and Judy for a mission. The theme of the ride simulates being a member of the Zootopia Police Department, tasked with chasing down a criminal who has kidnapped the famous pop star Gazelle on the night of her concert. You have to find the criminal, rescue Gazelle, and get her to the concert on time!

The inside of the ride is really adorable. It simulates chasing the criminal, and the perspective is set up like a first-person view, making you feel really immersed in the story. There are scenes with animal character figures that are really well done, and the screens that show Zootopia city scenes are stunning—especially when you’re “racing” through the city! It’s like stepping right into the movie.

This ride is very popular with both international visitors and locals, with long lines during peak hours. Waiting time can easily exceed 100+ minutes, so if you want to experience this ride, plan ahead to avoid wasting time in line. I have 3 ways to help you avoid the wait:

Method 1: Purchase Disney Premier Access (DPA) for a faster queue. However, using DPA means you’ll miss out on the fun experience of walking through the police station’s interior, where you can explore Nick and Judy’s office, Chief Bogo’s office, and the holding cells, which are full of fun details. I personally think it’s worth walking through, but if you’re short on time, DPA can be a good choice.

Method 2: Buy an Early Park Entry Pass along with your regular park ticket. This pass allows you to enter the park 90 minutes earlier than the general public. The pass costs about 149 yuan per person, and with it, you can go directly to the ride as early as 8:30 AM.

Method 3: Arrive at the park before 10:30 AM and head straight to the ride. This is what I did when I visited (on 29/10/2024). I entered the park at 10:00 AM with a regular ticket, not the Early Park Entry. I walked from the entrance to the Zootopia area, which took about 15-20 minutes, and then went straight to the ride. I only waited for about 10 minutes, which was pretty quick and efficient.

Additional Ride Restrictions:

  • The ride is suitable for all ages, with no age restrictions.
  • Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult (16 years or older).
  • There is a brief section with darkness.
  • There is no big drop, just a small dip (which is almost unnoticeable).
  • The ride goes fast, especially towards the end, but it’s not too fast to be scary.

Disney Zootopia Comes Alive

This isn’t a ride, but it’s so cute that I wanted to share it with you! If you’re visiting the Zootopia area, don’t just rush for the rides or focus only on taking photos. I recommend paying attention to the windows of the Zootopia Park Apartments. Sometimes, you might be lucky enough to see characters from the movie pop their heads out to greet guests or shout greetings to each other through the apartment windows. It’s really adorable!

However, the downside is that these characters don’t appear on a set schedule, so it’s a bit of a lucky surprise when it happens.

During certain seasons or events, this area may also host activities. But be aware that the shows or interactions may be canceled if the weather is bad on the day.

Zootopia Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

For those who want to meet the characters from the Zootopia area, most of them can be found inside the ride, such as Chief Bogo, Officer Clawhauser, and Gazelle, who appear as figures within the attraction.

However, if you want to meet Nick and Judy, they are the characters who come out to greet guests in front of the Zootopia Police Department recruitment center. But be warned, the line for photos and autographs with them can be very long—at least 2.5 hours! So, if you’re eager to take a picture with them, you’ll need to be patient.

Fantasyland

โซน Fantasyland Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

The next area is a very popular zone that many people love! This zone is especially beautiful and enchanting, designed with a fairytale theme that gives off a whimsical and princess-like vibe. It’s full of fantasy elements with charming decor, and it features around 7 main attractions and shows.

Attraction : Fantasyland

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

This attraction is inspired by the animation Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but it’s not a soft and gentle ride! It’s actually a thrilling roller coaster that takes you into the diamond mines of the dwarfs, then back to the dwarfs’ cottage where Snow White is dancing. The ride is fast and includes drops, so it’s quite an exciting experience!

Ride Requirements:

  • The minimum height for riders is 97 cm.
  • Pregnant women or those who may be pregnant should not ride.
  • Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 16 years old.
  • People with high blood pressure, heart or neck conditions, or those suffering from motion sickness should avoid the ride, as there are sharp turns.
  • The ride may cause dizziness, so those prone to motion sickness should also avoid it.

Additional Info: You can purchase Disney Premier Access (DPA) via the Shanghai Disney Resort app to skip the regular lines for this attraction.

Peter Pan’s Flight

This is a classic ride, but despite its age, the technology used at Shanghai Disneyland is still quite modern! The theme of the ride is a simulation of a journey to Neverland with the Darling children. You’ll hop into a flying pirate ship, which will take you on a magical journey with Peter Pan to Neverland. Along the way, you’ll encounter Captain Hook and his pirate crew who attack Peter Pan, but in the end, Peter Pan triumphs and safely returns Wendy to her home.

This is a calm and charming ride, not too thrilling or intense, but it’s a must-try if you’re in the park.

Ride Requirements:

  • No height or age restrictions.
  • There’s nothing scary, though there are some dark sections as you travel.
  • Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 16 years old.
  • You can buy Disney Premier Access (DPA) through the Shanghai Disney Resort app to skip the regular lines.

Hunny Pot Spin

This ride is similar to the Mad Hatter Tea Cups found at other Disney parks, but at Shanghai Disneyland, the teacups have been replaced by honey pots from Winnie the Pooh. The concept is simple: you sit in a cup, and it spins while moving around a circular track.

Personally, I’m not a fan of this kind of ride because I’ve experienced the Mad Hatter Tea Cups before and got super dizzy! It made me feel off for the rest of the day. So, I promised myself never to ride it again! However, this ride is actually quite popular in the park, and some people really enjoy it. I guess dizziness might be different for everyone, so if you’re up for it, you can give it a try!

Ride Requirements:

  • No age or height restrictions.
  • The ride spins continuously, so if you get motion sickness easily or feel dizzy, I would recommend skipping it.
  • Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 16 years old.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

This is a “ride” attraction that takes you on an adventure through the hot jungle of Winnie the Pooh’s Hundred Acre Wood. There’s nothing scary at all, just lots of cuteness! The ride’s format and storyline are similar to those at Hong Kong Disneyland and Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. This ride is perfect for children and those who don’t enjoy intense or scary attractions.

Ride Requirements:

  • No height or age restrictions.
  • Nothing scary.
  • There are sections where you go through dark areas.
  • Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult aged 16 or older.
  • You can purchase Disney Premier Access (DPA) to skip the line via the Shanghai Disney Resort app.

โซน Fantasyland Shanghai Disneyland 上海迪士尼樂園

This is a “ride” attraction where you sail through a fairy-tale garden. If you’re asking whether it’s worth it to ride, well, if you’re into thrills, this one might not be for you, as there’s nothing intense. However, if you’re a more laid-back traveler who enjoys cute sights or are visiting with children, it’s highly recommended!

Once you board the boat, it will travel along a route that takes you through scenes from various Disney animations. You’ll see scenes like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, and more. The boat also enters under the castle, where you’ll find large, sparkling crystals that symbolize the magical power that created this Disneyland and draws us all to visit.

Ride Requirements:

  • No height or age restrictions.
  • Nothing scary, but some parts go through dark areas.
  • Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult aged 16 or older.
  • You can purchase Disney Premier Access (DPA) to skip the line via the Shanghai Disney Resort app.

"Once Upon A Time" Adventure

The “Once Upon A Time Adventure” is not a ride, but more of an immersive attraction where you’ll enter the castle and experience the story of Snow White. It’s similar to Tokyo Disneyland’s version, where you walk through different rooms, each representing a scene from Snow White. There’s a magic mirror room, the dwarfs’ house, and the witch’s potion room. For anyone who loves Snow White, this attraction is a must! The details inside are beautifully crafted, and you’ll easily get lost in the magic. One of the most impressive scenes is when the prince enters to break the curse on Snow White – it feels incredibly real, like you’re part of the story.

Ride Requirements:

  • No height or age restrictions.
  • There’s nothing scary, but some rooms are dark.
  • Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult aged 16 or older.

Alice in Wonderland Maze

The Maze Garden inside the Fantasyland area of Shanghai Disneyland is inspired by the 2010 Alice in Wonderland live-action film, not the 1951 animated version. The garden is designed like a winding maze, filled with various scenes and photo opportunities. Visitors can explore areas like the Tea Party table, Cheshire Cat sculptures, the playing card soldiers, and the Queen of Hearts’ figure. It’s a whimsical space that offers plenty of spots for photos, perfect for fans of the Alice movies!

Voyage to the Crystal Grotto

Meet & Show : Fantasyland

Frozen: A Sing-Along Celebration

This is a cute live show for true Frozen fans! It’s a performance where you can watch and sing along with Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf. The scenes are beautiful, and it’s a fun experience. However, one downside is that the performers and songs are in Chinese, which might not be ideal for international visitors who don’t understand the language.

The show lasts about 20 minutes and runs in multiple sessions throughout the day:

  • 11:30 AM
  • 1:15 PM
  • 2:00 PM
  • 2:45 PM
  • 4:30 PM
  • 5:15 PM

To ensure you get a good spot, it’s recommended to line up about 10 minutes before the show starts.

Meet Disney Royalty

If you want to meet the Disney Princesses, you’ll need to head to the Meet Disney Royalty spot! The princesses greet guests in a beautifully decorated room inside the Enchanted Storybook Castle. The characters will appear one at a time, and sometimes, during special events, they may appear as pairs (though this is rare). They’ll be out for about 10-15 minutes at a time, and if you want to meet them, this is the only place to do so!

  • The character appearances are for a short time, and you can take photos and ask for autographs.
  • There is no fixed schedule for the character appearances, so you’ll have to wait and see who is out that day.
  • Autographs can be requested.
  • There is no list of characters available, so it’s a bit of a surprise which princess will be out.
  • Be prepared to wait in line for a while—it can take over 1.5 hours, so patience is key!

Meet Winnie the Pooh & Friends in the Hundred Acre Wood

This is similar to meeting the princesses, but instead of princesses, you get to meet the Hundred Acre Wood gang! The characters will appear one at a time, and sometimes, during special events, they may appear in pairs (though this is rare). They’ll be out for about 10-15 minutes at a time. The rules are the same as for meeting the princesses:

  • The character appearances are for a short time, and you can take photos and ask for autographs.
  • There is no fixed schedule for the character appearances, so you’ll have to wait and see who is out that day.
  • No list of characters is available, so it’s a bit of a surprise who will be out.
  • Autographs can be requested.
  • Be prepared to wait in line for a while—it can take over 1 hour, so patience is key!

Traveling Troubadours

This is a musical and dance performance with a traveling theater theme that takes place around the Fantasyland area. The show lasts for 15 minutes per round.

  • The show timings are not fixed.
  • The performance location is not fixed either, but you can typically find them within the Fantasyland zone.

It’s a fun and spontaneous experience, so keep an eye out as you explore!

Fantasy Festival

This is an outdoor music and dance performance in the Fantasyland area, where various characters rotate in and out for each 15-minute show.

  • The show schedule is not fixed, similar to the Traveling Troubadours.
  • The characters performing may vary, so it’s a bit of a surprise each time.
  • The show may be canceled if the weather is bad.
  • Autographs are not available during this performance.

It’s a lively and unpredictable experience that adds some fun to your visit if you happen to catch it!

Fantasy Storytelling

This is an outdoor show in the Fantasyland area where cast members and characters come out to tell stories or fairy tales related to their characters. The stories may change from time to time, so if you happen to catch it, you can sit and listen to the storytelling.

  • The show doesn’t happen frequently, and the schedule is not fixed.
  • The show will not take place if the weather is bad.
  • Autographs are not available during this performance.

It’s a lovely, spontaneous experience for anyone who enjoys stories or wants a break while exploring

Tomorrowland

The Tomorrowland zone at Shanghai Disneyland is a unique area that sets itself apart from other zones by focusing on a futuristic theme, with an emphasis on science and technology. This zone represents a vision of the future filled with innovation and progress. The zone features around 4 main attractions that stand out

Attraction : Tomorrowland

TRON Lightcycle Power Run

This is one of the most popular attractions inspired by a Disney movie of the same name, and it’s special because you won’t find this attraction in any other Disney park—it’s exclusive to Shanghai Disneyland!

The ride has a roller-skating type of theme, but instead of sitting like a traditional roller coaster, you ride a specially designed vehicle that feels like you’re riding a motorcycle. Although it may seem scary, the safety is very secure, so you can rest assured about your safety. When the ride takes off, it’s really fast—zooming out at high speed. The car takes sharp turns and then enters a dark dome similar to Space Mountain, but with faster, sharper turns inside. There are no big drops, just small ones, so it’s suitable for people who are afraid of high drops.

You can reserve a spot for this ride using either the Standby Pass or Disney Premier Access.

Here are the conditions for the ride:

  • Height restriction: Must be at least 122 cm.
  • Pregnant guests or those who may be pregnant should avoid this ride.
  • Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult aged 16 or older.
  • This ride is high-speed, so it’s not recommended for those who are afraid of fast-moving rides.
  • Guests with high blood pressure, heart conditions, or other medical conditions that might worsen during the ride should refrain from riding.
  • Motion sickness or dizziness may also make this ride uncomfortable, as there are many sharp turns.
  • There are small drops inside the tunnel, but no large drops.
  • No phones, selfie sticks, or bags are allowed during the ride. If you have a bag or these items, you’ll need to store them in a locker or designated area. Before the ride, staff will provide bins for your belongings, and you can collect them afterward.

This ride is incredibly popular, so if you plan to ride it and don’t want to buy a DPA , it’s best to get there early and head straight for it.

You can also buy Disney Premier Access (DPA) through the Shanghai Disney Resort app for a fast pass to skip the regular queue.

TRON Realm, Chevrolet Digital Challenge

Here’s the English translation for the description of TRON Realm, Chevrolet Digital Challenge:

This is not an attraction ride, but more of an exhibition area where you can walk in and explore. Inside, there are simulators that you can interact with by pressing buttons and playing games. It’s great for kids, but adults can also go in if they wish, though it’s not a must-do. If you’re short on time, you can skip it.

  • Nothing scary.
  • No age restrictions.

Jet Packs

Here’s the English translation for the Jet Pack Ride description:

This attraction is similar to the Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride, but it’s not just for young children like Dumbo because it has a height restriction. The ride theme simulates wearing a jetpack and flying through the air. It’s a fun and relaxing ride to enjoy.

  • Height restriction: 112 cm and above.
  • Pregnant women or those who might be pregnant should avoid this ride.
  • Guests with conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, or any other medical issues that may worsen during the ride should not participate.
  • No phones, selfie sticks, or bags are allowed during the ride. If you have a bag or personal items, you must store them in a locker or designated area.

Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue

This is a ride similar to Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek! at Tokyo Disneyland. For those who haven’t been to that attraction, it’s a ride with a Buzz Lightyear theme. You’ll sit on a vehicle that moves slowly along the path, and each vehicle has two laser guns that you can use to shoot at various targets inside the ride to collect points. When you shoot, cute effects will appear, making it a fun and enjoyable ride.

  • No height or age restrictions.
  • There’s a small section where you go through some darkness.
  • Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by a guardian aged 16 or older.
  • This ride is eligible for Disney Premier Access (DPA) for skipping the regular queue via the Shanghai Disney Resort app.

Meet & Show : Tomorrowland

Avengers Training Initiative

For this zone, the main characters are none other than the Avengers superheroes! Here, you can wait in line to take pictures and chat with them. The superheroes will meet with fans in 15-minute sessions, but the schedule for when they’ll appear is not announced in advance.

Stitch Encounter

This is not a ride, but rather a live interactive show where you can talk and interact with Stitch. Personally, I feel this is more suited for children and may not be ideal for international visitors, as Stitch speaks in Chinese.

  • There is no age restriction.
  • Just a reminder, Stitch speaks Chinese!

Club Destin-E

This stage will be the permanent performance venue for various festivals in the Tomorrowland zone. You’ll find exciting music here with DJs playing upbeat electronic tracks. The show themes might change depending on the festival, with two daily performances at 6:45 PM and 7:15 PM. Everyone’s welcome to come and dance! Especially the 7:15 PM show – it’s totally packed with people having a blast and enjoying themselves.

Treasure Cove

This zone is unique to Shanghai Disneyland, and upon entering, you’ll immediately spot a large pirate ship inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean. The park has created a backstory for this area, explaining that it was founded in 1690 by Don Diego Sevilla Portillo, a Spanish nobleman. His arrival brought many changes, including the creation of the El Teatro Fandango theater. However, over time, the area fell under British control, and the British navy renamed the city’s fort to Fort Snobbish. Ultimately, Captain Jack Sparrow arrived, transforming the entire town into a pirate hideout.

Attraction : Treasure Cove

Siren's Revenge

The pirate ship in this area serves as a prominent landmark of Treasure Cove. When you see this ship, it means you’ve entered the land of pirates! This ship isn’t a ride but more of a walkthrough attraction where guests can explore the various rooms inside, including the captain’s cabin, treasure storage, supply rooms, and the ship’s deck. It’s a great experience for families with kids, as they can roam around and discover the different areas. However, for adults, it’s more suitable for photo opportunities.

There’s nothing scary here, and children can freely explore the ship. Close to the ship, there’s a water-themed play area for kids, but it’s not a swimming pool. It has fountains, water jets, and water guns that children can enjoy. Parents should be aware that they might get wet, as many parents bring raincoats for their little ones while they play.

Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure

The highlight attraction of Treasure Cove is the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, which is an absolute must-try! If you’ve experienced this ride at other Disney parks before, forget everything you know, because Shanghai Disneyland has taken this ride to a whole new level with cutting-edge technology that makes it incredibly realistic. It feels as if you’ve stepped right into the movie itself! Highly recommended!

  • The ride has no height or age restrictions.
  • There are sections where the boat sails through dark areas, and some parts have echoing sounds inside caves. People with misophonia (sensitivity to certain sounds) may want to reconsider.
  • Inside, you’ll encounter battle scenes, explosion sounds, and loud noises.
  • Toward the end of the ride, there’s a scene where Jack Sparrow fights Davy Jones and triggers an explosion, which causes the boat to be pushed back and slide down a small drop. If you’re someone who gets startled by drops, this moment might surprise you. Personally, I was a bit shocked too, but the drop is not steep and isn’t too intense, so I think children and those who are nervous about drops can still enjoy it.
  • Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult (16+).
  • You can purchase Disney Premier Access (DPA) via the Shanghai Disney Resort app to skip the regular line.

This ride is a must-see for anyone visiting Shanghai Disneyland!

Explorer Canoes

This is a canoe ride where guests can paddle along the bay. For me, it’s a bit of a “take it or leave it” attraction. You can definitely play if you’d like, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it during the hot midday hours since it can get pretty warm out there!

  • Each ride lasts about 10 minutes.
  • There are no height or age restrictions for this ride.
  • Children under 7 years old must have an adult (16+) accompany them on the canoe. They are not allowed to ride alone.

If you’re in the mood for a relaxing paddle and it’s not too hot, it’s a fun little activity to try!

Eye of the Storm: Captain Jack’s Stunt Spectacular

Meet : Treasure Cove

Treasure Cove

The character for this zone is none other than Captain Jack Sparrow ! He will be walking around within this area, and guests can approach him for photos and to chat. I had the chance to meet him once, and I was really impressed – he was so charming and great at making conversation! If you get the chance to meet him, I definitely recommend striking up a chat!

Adventure Isle

This zone is themed around an adventure in a distant land hidden within the mist of the ocean. It features a native tribe called the “Arbori,” and one of its key landmarks is the Roaring Mountain, or “Apu Taku” in the local native language. The story goes that this place was first discovered in 1935 when a group of explorers accidentally wandered in and encountered the local tribe, who kindly offered them shelter and welcomed them. There are about three main attractions in this area.

Attraction : Adventure Isle

Soaring Over the Horizon

This is a river rapids attraction at Shanghai Disneyland, taking guests on a journey down a fast-flowing river into the cave of Apu Taku. Inside, there are terrifying creatures to encounter!

Height Requirement: Minimum 107 cm
Important Information:

  • This is a river rafting ride, so it’s highly recommended to wear a poncho or rain gear as you will get wet.
  • The ride includes dark caves, loud sounds, and a large dragon animatronic. It may be scary for younger children.
  • There is a significant drop, so those who are afraid of drop-style rides should skip this one.
  • Pregnant guests or those who might be pregnant should not ride.
  • Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult 16 years or older.
  • Not suitable for guests with heart conditions, high blood pressure, or other conditions that may worsen during the ride.
  • Guests who are prone to motion sickness or dizziness should avoid the ride as it includes sudden turns.
  • Disney Premier Access (DPA) is available to skip the regular line via the Shanghai Disney Resort app.

Camp Discovery

This attraction is similar to a zip line at Shanghai Disneyland. It’s themed as though you’re part of an expedition team exploring the Roaring Mountain area. You’ll wear a safety harness and zip across the canyon, river, waterfalls, and steep cliffs. It’s a thrilling experience, and the safety measures are top-notch, so you don’t need to worry about accidents.

Height Requirement: Minimum 106 cm
Important Information:

  • Guests wearing flip-flops or slip-on shoes should be cautious, as there is a risk of shoes falling off during the ride.
  • No personal items such as phones, cameras, or bags are allowed on the ride. These can be stored in lockers provided at the entrance.
  • Disney Premier Access (DPA) is available to skip the regular line via the Shanghai Disney Resort app.

Soaring Over the Horizon

This is one of the most popular and spectacular attractions in this zone, and I highly recommend it for anyone who meets the height requirements. The ride is just as breathtaking as those at Disney California Adventure, Epcot, and Tokyo DisneySea!

The theme of the ride is a thrilling journey where you encounter the Sky Guardians, a tribe’s celestial protectors who can transform into the Thunderbird. They will take you on a flight around the world, soaring over magnificent locations. The best part is the ride simulation where you’re seated on a glider that lifts off into a massive dome, offering 180-degree views on an OMNIMAX laser screen in 4K quality. As you glide through various scenes like a safari, you’ll even experience realistic scents like fresh grass and earth, or the aroma of Indian incense when flying over the Taj Mahal. It’s an immersive and exciting experience from start to finish.

Height Requirement: Minimum 102 cm
Important Information:

  • During the ride, it simulates being on a glider soaring through the skies, so there might be some drops and speed changes. If you have a fear of heights, you might want to skip this one.
  • Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult aged 16 or older.
  • Disney Premier Access (DPA) can be used to skip the regular queue via the Shanghai Disney Resort app.

Meet & Show : Adventure Isle

Meet Disney Jungle Characters at Happy Circle

Chip & Dale at Chip & Dale’s Trading Post

In this zone, there is a gift shop called Trading Post, which is the best place for Chip and Dale merchandise. It’s also the only store in the park where you can meet Chip and Dale together, and they’re there to greet guests who visit. They always come out as a pair, and it’s incredibly cute!

Chip and Dale are available for meet-and-greet at Trading Post between 10:15 AM and 4:30 PM each day. You can also ask for their autographs during this time.

However, if the weather is bad—such as heavy rain, strong winds, or thick fog—the character meet-and-greet may be delayed or temporarily canceled.

If you’re looking to meet Russell and Dug from the animated movie Up, you can find them in this zone at Happy Circle. They appear together for about 30 minutes at a time and rotate throughout the day.

They are available for meet-and-greet from 11:15 AM to 5:45 PM. You can also ask for their autographs.

However, if the weather is bad—like heavy rain, strong winds, or thick fog—the meet-and-greet may be delayed or temporarily canceled.

Glimpse of Kevin

Kevin, the lovable bird from Up, is one of the featured characters in the Adventure Isle zone. Kevin roams around the area, and guests can approach her for photos, though the exact timing for her appearances is not fixed.

Kevin will be out to greet guests between 9:45 AM and 3:30 PM on that day. However, if the weather conditions are poor—such as heavy rain, strong winds, or thick fog—the meet-and-greet may be delayed or temporarily canceled.

Please note that you won’t be able to ask Kevin for an autograph.

Meet Disney Jungle Characters at Happy Circle

In the area close to where you meet the Up characters, if you turn to the opposite side, you’ll find the meeting spot for the Jungle Characters, featuring characters from The Jungle Book and The Lion King. These characters will be greeting guests and taking photos.

They will be available for meet-and-greets from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM that day. You can ask for autographs from these characters.

If the weather conditions are unfavorable—such as rain, strong winds, or thick fog—the meet-and-greet sessions may be postponed or canceled temporarily.

Meet LinaBell at Friendship Point

Linnabel is undoubtedly one of the most beloved and popular characters at the Shanghai Disneyland, and her meet-and-greet sessions are a must for many guests! If you’re hoping to meet Linnabel, head to Friendship Point, where she will greet guests. But be prepared—she’s extremely popular, and the line can be quite long! Some visitors have waited as long as 3 to 4 hours to meet her, so patience is key if you’re set on meeting this adorable character.

Linnabel will be available for meet-and-greets from 9:15 AM to 7:15 PM on the day you visit. You can request an autograph from her.

If the weather conditions are bad—such as rain, strong winds, or thick fog—there may be delays or cancellations of her appearance temporarily.

Disney•Pixar Toy Story Land

Disney•Pixar Toy Story Land

The Toy Story Land in Shanghai Disneyland is a vibrant and adorable zone, designed to make you feel like you’re walking into Andy’s toy room from the Toy Story movies. There are three main attractions in this area.

Attraction : Disney•Pixar Toy Story Land

Rex’s Racer

This attraction might look like a kids’ ride due to its colorful design, but don’t be fooled—it’s actually one of the most thrilling rides in this zone! The ride is similar to a Viking-style swing, and for those who love adrenaline-pumping experiences, it’s definitely worth trying out.

  • Height requirement: 120 cm and above
  • Pregnant guests or those who might be pregnant should avoid this ride.
  • Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult (16 years or older) at all times.
  • The ride features a high drop and is quite intense, so if you’re afraid of such experiences, it’s best to skip it.
  • You can also purchase Disney Premier Access (DPA) through the Shanghai Disney Resort app to skip the line for this attraction.

Slinky Dog Spin

This is a Toy Story-themed ride where you sit on Slinky Dog’s back as he spins and runs around in circles. Personally, I’m not a big fan of this ride because Slinky Dog runs in spinning patterns that create a swinging sensation. Although it doesn’t spin in tight circles like the Hunny Pot Spin, it can still make you dizzy. However, some people might enjoy it, so you may want to give it a try!
* There are no height restrictions for this ride
* People who are prone to motion sickness should avoid this ride
* Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by a supervisor aged 16 or above

Woody’s Roundup

Here’s the natural English translation:
This ride simulates the experience of riding a wagon during the cowboy era of 1865-1895. I find this ride quite charming, and it’s not likely to cause motion sickness since the horse-drawn wagon doesn’t move in tight circles. It’s a relaxing and enjoyable ride!

  • Minimum height requirement is 81 cm
  • Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by a supervisor aged 16 or above
  • Disney Premier Access (DPA) is available for this attraction through the Shanghai Disney Resort app

Lotso Lunch Box

In Shanghai Disneyland’s Toy Story area, you’ll find a zone dedicated to carnival games and prize-winning activities. The games range from ball toss challenges and magnetic fishing to claw machines, with some games offering prizes that can be redeemed directly from cast members. Beyond the games, this area also features delicious dining options, including the popular Alien’s Hawaiian Pizza and themed desserts served in toy-inspired containers.

  • Please note that carnival games are not free – they cost between 50-100 Yuan per play

Meet & Show : Disney•Pixar Toy Story Land

Toy Story Land
Toy Story Land

In Toy Story Land, who else could be the zone’s signature characters but Sheriff Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear.

These three characters appear exclusively in this area. Their appearance schedule isn’t announced in advance, and you won’t see all three characters at once – they might appear in pairs or individually. When visiting this zone, keep an eye out for these beloved characters and don’t hesitate to say hello!

  • Character meet-and-greets are available only from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM
  • Autographs are available
  • Character appearances may be cancelled due to inclement weather
Toy Soldiers Bucket O' Fun

This is a small interactive show that simulates a boot camp experience with the Green Army Men, called “Toy Soldiers Bucket O’ Fun”. This activity is perfect for children (though adults are welcome to join in too!). However, one drawback is that it might not be suitable for international visitors who don’t understand Chinese, as the cast members speak almost entirely in Chinese.

  • The activity takes place exclusively in the Pixar Pals area within Disney•Pixar Toy Story Land
  • The activity will be cancelled in case of inclement weather

FAQ

Shanghai Disneyland’s regular operating hours are from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM, though sometimes they may adjust to 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. However, Disney hotel guests and visitors with Early Park Entry Pass can enter the park one hour before the general public.

While Shanghai Disneyland’s atmosphere changes with each season and it’s really up to personal preference, if I had to recommend specific times to visit, I’d suggest March to May during spring when the weather is pleasantly cool, or October to December during the year-end period when the park offers many new activities, parades, shows, and other special events.

I recommend avoiding visits to Shanghai Disneyland during China’s major holidays as the park gets extremely crowded during these periods. Here are China’s major holidays to keep in mind:

  • December 30, 2023 – January 1, 2024: New Year Holiday
  • February 10-17: Chinese New Year
  • April 4-6: Qingming Festival
  • May 1-5: Labor Day
  • June 8-10: Dragon Boat Festival
  • September 15-17: Mid-Autumn Festival
  • October 1-7: Chinese National Day

I’ve maintained the helpful advisory tone while clearly presenting the holiday dates and names in a way that’s familiar to English speakers. Would you like me to explain any part of the translation or provide more details about any of these holidays?

There are fireworks displays twice daily – at 6:45 PM and 9:15 PM. However, these shows may be cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions such as rain, storms, heavy fog, etc.

Shanghai Disneyland does not allow selfie sticks or tripods inside the park.

“Luggage Storage” facility near the park entrance. We’re open from 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM daily. Our rates range from 10 to 80 yuan, depending on your bag size.

Looking for ATMs to withdraw cash? You’ll find them conveniently located throughout Shanghai Disneyland at these locations:

  • At the main entrance near Guest Services
  • Just outside the park’s main entrance gates
  • In the parking area
  • Throughout Disney Town
  • At the First Aid Center in Tomorrowland Inside the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel
  • Inside the Toy Story Hotel

Feel free to visit any of these locations when you need to access cash during your stay. Each ATM is easily accessible and well-marked to help make your visit more convenient!

Shanghai Disneyland allows guests to bring in portable food and drinks, but there are some conditions: the food must be ready to eat. Food that needs to be cooked, such as instant noodles, instant porridge, or food/drinks that need to be reheated or use hot water is not allowed. Food, fruits, and drinks with strong smells are also not allowed.

Things to Know Before Visiting Shanghai Disneyland

While Shanghai Disneyland has many wonderful aspects that impressed me, there are some areas for improvement that affected my experience. I’d like to share these observations:

  • The park has a significant issue with cigarette smoke everywhere you go. I must say I wasn’t prepared for this situation, as it’s quite different from other Disney parks I’ve visited. While there are designated smoking areas, many guests smoke freely throughout the park, and surprisingly, Cast Members don’t seem to enforce the smoking rules (I’ve seen people smoking right next to Cast Members without any intervention). This affects both the air quality and, honestly, diminishes some of the magical atmosphere I expected. If you’re sensitive to smoke, I strongly recommend bringing a face mask.
  • Queue-cutting seems to have become somewhat normalized here. My tip for fellow visitors: stay close to the person in front of you and keep your group together without leaving gaps. This helps prevent others from cutting in line.
  • The parade and castle show viewing areas aren’t as orderly as at other Disney parks. I also noticed there was significantly more litter on the ground after shows compared to other Disney parks I’ve visited.
  • Another significant challenge I encountered was the language barrier. Most Cast Members have limited English proficiency, which meant I had to rely on Google Translate for about 95% of my communications. This made interactions a bit more challenging than I expected.

Is Shanghai Disneyland good for tourists?

In my opinion, Shanghai Disney Resort stands out as a truly unique theme park. The castle, in particular, is absolutely stunning – it features a beautiful blend of Disney princesses and queens in its design, making it quite different and more distinctive than castles at other Disney parks.

When it comes to attractions, I’m impressed by how beautiful and technologically advanced the rides are, which is fitting for Disney’s newest park in the world (currently). Each zone has its own distinct theme, making both the shows and rides really enjoyable. However, I should note that while the rides are impressive, they’re fewer in number compared to other parks, as Shanghai Disneyland puts more emphasis on shows and activities.

The character meet and greets here are absolutely fantastic for fans! What makes them special is that there’s no rushing – guests aren’t given strict time limits with characters. During each meeting, you can take your time chatting, taking photos, selfies, and videos without feeling pressured to finish quickly. This is quite different from other Disney parks where you typically get just 2-3 minutes before being politely ushered along. Here, I’ve seen guests spending 10-15 minutes with a single character, which I think is wonderful fan service!

One important note though: since Shanghai Disneyland doesn’t primarily use English, and most Cast Members have limited English proficiency, I strongly recommend that non-Chinese speakers prepare well for their visit.

**Conditions are as specified by the company**
