A Guide to Disneytown at Shanghai Disney Resort

Choose Language :

Disneytown is the vibrant lifestyle district right outside Shanghai Disneyland—no ticket required! From world-class dining and Disney-themed shops to live performances and photogenic spots, Disneytown offers magic beyond the park gates. Whether you’re a foodie, a fashion lover, or a Disney fan, there’s something waiting for you. Let’s explore what makes Disneytown a must-visit destination.

Disneytown – A Shopping Wonderland in the Heart of Shanghai

Disneytown is a vibrant shopping and entertainment district located inside Shanghai Disney Resort, in the Pudong area of Shanghai. It’s designed to let visitors experience a touch of Disney magic—even without entering the theme park! Since it’s right next to Shanghai Disneyland, many people like to stop by after a day in the park, or just swing by to shop for Disney goodies. No park ticket needed! Disneytown is open daily from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM.

Getting here is super easy. You can take Metro Line 11 and hop off at Disney Resort Station, or simply grab a taxi or use a ride-hailing app if that’s more convenient.

I recommend setting aside 2–3 hours to really enjoy the vibe. The whole place becomes especially beautiful in the evening when the lights come on—it feels romantic, charming, and absolutely magical. ✨

How to Get to Disneytown

By Metro (Line 11)

  • Line 11 runs daily from 6:00 AM to 10:30 PM, with direct service to Disney Resort Station, which is the nearest stop for Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown, and Wishing Star Park.
Use Exit 1 (West Side), labeled “Disneyland, west side” — follow the signs and you’ll reach Disneytown (Lakeshore + Broadway Plaza) in just 5–10 minutes on foot.

By Didi (Ride-Hailing App)

When using Didi, search for “Disney Car & Tour Bus Parking Lot” – this is the official drop-off and pick-up area managed by the resort.

  • Drop-off: This area is close to both Disneytown and Disneyland entrances. From here, it’s a short 5–10 minute walk to either location. You can also ask Disney staff to point out the nearest shuttle stop.

  • Pick-up: When heading back, wait at the Goofy area in the same lot. (Avoid the “Mickey area,” which is known for unauthorized drivers.)

⚠️ Important Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid taking taxis waiting outside the resort gate — these are often unmetered or overcharge. From personal experience: what should’ve cost 80 RMB (Yuan) via Didi ended up being 600 due to rigged meters.
➤ Always use Didi or trusted ride-hailing apps with reviews and verified drivers.

  • If you’re leaving after 8:00 PM, note that the pick-up area can be quite dark. Wait in well-lit, populated zones like the Goofy area for safety.

  • If you get lost, don’t hesitate to ask a Disney staff member. If you don’t speak Chinese, use a translation app—it helps a lot, seriously!

What’s Inside Disneytown?

Disneytown has an adorable, Disney-inspired vibe that blends perfectly with the park just next door. Since it sits right outside the gates of Shanghai Disneyland, the design inside Disneytown feels like a seamless extension of the park itself.

As soon as you step in, you’ll be greeted by a variety of shops—from Disney-themed souvenir stores to high-end fashion brands. There are also beautifully decorated international restaurants that offer both style and flavor. The whole area is bursting with that cheerful, lively energy we all associate with Disney. It’s colorful, charming, and full of little magical touches around every corner.

Mickey & Friends Travel Around China

Cr.Mickey & Friends Travel Around China ,Shanghai Disney Resort

One of the cultural highlights at Disneytown is the traditional Chinese shadow puppet show called “Piyingxi” (皮影戏). This ancient folk art dates back thousands of years and involves intricately carved and hand-painted puppets made from thin animal hide. These puppets are brought to life through light and shadow, creating moving silhouettes on a white screen. It’s a precious part of Chinese cultural heritage, often used to tell folklore, legends, or even modern tales in a classic Chinese storytelling style.

But at Disneytown, things get a fun little twist—because the stars of the show are Mickey & Friends! They travel to different cities around the world, experiencing local cultures, landscapes, and traditions in the most delightful Disney way. If you’re lucky enough to catch it while visiting, I highly recommend stopping to watch. It’s absolutely charming!

The show is performed entirely in Chinese and doesn’t run every day. It depends on the schedule and weather conditions. Rain, strong winds, heavy fog, lightning, or poor air quality may cause delays or cancellations for everyone’s safety.

Giant Donald Duck

Cr. Shanghai Disneyland

If you’re a Donald Duck fan, don’t miss the chance to snap a selfie with the giant Donald by Wishing Star Lake! How big is he? Well… he stands a whopping 11 meters tall in his classic sailor outfit, striking a pose and ready to greet everyone in full Disney style. 🐤💙

This spot has become one of the most iconic photo ops in Disneytown—tons of people come here just for the pic! It’s the kind of place that practically begs to be on your camera roll.

Where are the best photo spots in Disneytown?

Disneytown has plenty of great photo-worthy corners, but here are the top favorite spots that visitors just can’t resist …

  • The Giant Donald Duck by the Lake . Located in the Lakeshore Area, this massive Donald statue is a fan favorite! With the calm lake and the distant view of the Enchanted Storybook Castle across the water, it’s the perfect place for golden hour and twilight shots.
  • The Entrance of the World of Disney Store (or even inside!) No park ticket needed—you’ll feel the full Disney magic just by standing at the entrance. The store design and displays make it one of the most “Disney” spots outside the park.
  • Donald’s Dine ‘n Delights A Donald Duck–themed restaurant that’s absolutely adorable! Every corner is perfect for snapping cute photos—colorful, detailed, and full of personality.

SoReal VR SuperSpace

Cr. Shanghai Disneyland

I think this spot is super cool and definitely worth checking out if you have some extra time. It’s kind of like a mini theme park zone—similar to what you’d find inside Disneyland, but with a twist! Instead of roller coasters or big rides, this area focuses on cutting-edge tech experiences, especially at SoReal VR SuperSpace, which blends 5G + XR technology for a fully immersive adventure.

There are interactive games, multiplayer experiences, and even an exhibit called “SuperSpace of the Monkey King.” If you’re into virtual reality or futuristic attractions, I’m pretty sure you’ll love this place!

Note: There’s an additional admission fee, usually around 299–799 RMB (Yuan) per person.

What’s there to shop in Disneytown?

Cr.POP MART, Shanghai Disneyland

  • POP MART
  • Merchandise Service Center
  • MLB
  • MLBKIDS
  • PANDORA
  • TOP TOY
  • SKECHERS

**But!!! One of my absolute favorite spots (and a fan-favorite too!) is the World of Disney & Disney Home store. Imagine a giant train depot–themed shop filled with Disney merchandise that’s almost identical to what you’d find inside the park—seriously, nearly 100%! And the best part? The prices aren’t higher than in the park either. So it’s perfect if you don’t have time to go into the park but still want to grab some adorable Disney goodies. Or maybe you’ve already been inside and just forgot to pick something up—this place has you covered!

You’ll find the store in the Disneytown area, right near the entrance close to Starbucks. And let me tell you—it’s HUGE. Like, really huge. And packed with all kinds of treasures: plush toys, clothes, bags, hats, and tons of cute Disney Home items like plates, mugs, tablecloths, cushions, and all kinds of home décor.

I totally recommend setting aside some time to wander and shop here—there’s just so much cuteness to choose from! The World of Disney & Disney Home store is open daily from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
